“A fight is going on inside me,” said an old man to his son. “It is a terrible fight between two wolves. One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. The same fight is going on inside you.” The son thought about it for a minute and then asked, “Which wolf will win?”

The old man replied simply, “The one you feed.”

Giving to others and giving to yourself have the same impacts just in a different way. What you give to yourself like thoughts, manners, behaviors, principles, morals, and treatments you get that back as well from others. If you are a kind person, most people will be kind to you. Not all of them but most of them. Same with principles, if your principles are very important to you and make you act a certain way, then you will have people doing that to you also. What you are attracts a lot of things in your life, evilness will attract evilness, and kindness will attract kindness. It’s a circle that you can’t run away from. So what you are feeding yourself with is what you will be fed with from others. Not most people can turn an eye and be understanding with your behaviors. You have to understand your own behavior and why you are doing the things you’re doing. If they are good, then do more, if they are bad, then do less. However first you must understand why you are doing those actions.

Actions and thoughts go together as one. What you think will impact how you act, for example if you think that being kind to people will make others be kind to you, then you will try to act kindly. If you think that people are not to be trusted, you then will act distant which will make people distant from you. If you are an eye for eye person, you then will treat people that way and that treatment will be done to you. I´m not saying all the time how you are acting will make people do the same, but most of the time it will. Also your thoughts of people will attract situations that prove that thought, if you believe people are all fake, you then will see all people fake and attract real fake people. If you think people are taking advantage of you all the time, you then will see everyone taking advantage of you, which then will actually attract advantageous people. It all starts with you, and it all ends with you. So this kind of giving, or to be more specific “feeding”, is one that starts with the mind and ends with the mind.

To make it easier on yourself, always think in a good positive way. That way you will attract more good and positive things in your life. If you will always think negatively then even when you have a mansion, a luxurious car, and a good wife, you will not be satisfied and turn even the most beautiful things into things that are ugly. For example you will have a big mansion, beautiful, but from your negative thoughts you can turn it into something ugly by focusing on the problems. The paying the bills, cleaning, how not spacious “enough”, the taxes, the mortgage, etc. Instead of seeing how beautiful your house is, how thankful you are to have this house, you instead focus on the problems because you’re unsatisfied.

The other form of giving is a materialistic one, to give things to others. This kind of giving decides how generous a person is. A person who is always giving is labeled as a generous person, simple as that. “The more you give the more you get.” Is a statement that I believe in 100 percent. The more you help people whether it’s financially or other aspects, the more you will get something in return. I can promise you anything you give, for example 10 dollars, you will minimally get 20 if not more back. However 100 percent guarantee you will get 10 dollars back and a piece of happiness with it. If you read this in just a logical way, or just looking at the numbers you will think  10 dollars can never turn into 20 without any work. Well with the work of God, and the work that you help others, you will always get it back double. It’s a matter of faith and if you don’t have faith in that, then it’s a lost case.

Generosity is one of the main acts of kindness that gives you a tremendous amount of happiness and faith. To have faith that you will help someone and God will help you back even more gives you happiness. To help others actually gives you a lot of happiness. A study showed that when people give things to others the hormone endorphin is increased. To do good always has rewards for you, and to do bad always has consequences for you. Generosity is one of the things that give you many goods materialistically and spiritually.

Don’t ever be afraid to give, thinking that you will lose something. You will never lose anything, you will always get it back double the amount. If you’re someone who sees things in plus and minus, then know it’s always a plus when you give.

I’ve met many people that have more than enough to give but their fear of losing something makes them try to hold on to money that eventually will mean nothing. On the other hand I’ve met people that don’t make as much as, or have as much, but give wholeheartedly without thinking twice. These people are the ones I respect the most, they are the ones that I feel like I will never be able to pay back their kindness. These people are the ones I look up to and wish to be like.

I try everyday to be like this woman I know, I try to give just like she does, I try to be kind and smile like she does, I try to gain knowledge to be as smart as her, this woman is the woman I am most thankful for in my life. She taught me love in the most beautiful way. She is a woman who is always giving. Maybe you know someone who is like that, then you know how beautiful a person can be. Or maybe you are like that, then you know how beautifully people can see you. Today try to give something, whether it’s to the homeless or needy, or friends and family, just give a small thing away to make someone happy and see….how happy you will be.
